Do you have an itchy scalp? New season, new scalp care is needed...
Since it is Spring, aside from us all sneezing, itching our eyes we are probably itching our scalps.
It’s sometimes the most annoying thing when you itch your scalp and your shirt is covered in dandruff or dead skin. Always remember that you have to start caring for your scalp, especially after the winter months. I will share tips & tricks on what I find is best. What is the best home care and what you should do when in the salon. I will share in my experience what I see working, what else can work and products that I use.
First things first, remember the places that you feel the most dry, you can maybe have patches. Bring it up to your hairstylist, we are trained with the very large words to know what is an allergy, what is a fungus, what is psoriasis, boils, aggravated scalp and things you don’t even want to assume could be on your scalp. We are able to see what needs to be medically treated by a doctor or can be treated with salon professional items. I know we are trained to go to the drug store to grab head & shoulders or selsun blue. That is almost like a band aid on something that requires stitches. Sorry but there are two scalp scrubs in the salon that help, based on how severe and what you have going on. I have noticed clarifying K18 Detox shampoo does wonders to help out dandruff. I have a tea tree scrub that emulsifies and I used it on a client with psoriasis. I would like to say it helped her tremendously.
I have a scalpcial service in the salon (starts at $95), I start it off to look through your scalp and see if there are hot spots, I section it off and start to scrub the scalp with a teasing brush. Then after that, I take you to the sink and start with the K18 detox shampoo and then I use the Tea Tree scalp scrub. I make sure to get the entire scalp scrubbed thoroughly, once that is rinsed out I do a deep conditioning treatment (pick one based on your hair type and needs) and put you under the steamer. This helps to open the scalp and relax the hair, the hair when it’s wet is it’s most fragile. Then I give a scalp massage after 10 minutes, rinse and style with nourishing styling products. I use Unite 7Second Detangler, normally Davines This is a Volumizing Mousse and style. The home care will be based on the severity of your dandruff and how you are feeling after 2 washes. I will check in to make sure that the scalp is feeling good, if it is not then I will suggest another product or check in with your dermatologist. In my experience, some people need to explore all the options with your hairstylist and avoid googling your own home remedies. I know they have not worked for me, and I have had some gnarly itchy scalp when the weather changes.
