Spring has sprung and it’s time to look at all your products and try to remember how old they are. Try to remember when you bought them, I know I never can remember. Did you know that products, professional or store bought have expiration dates? Normally everything expires, if you grab a product you will see on the back by the barcode below the ingredients a little photos like this blog cover. Everything has either a 12, 24 or 36 months shelf life upon opening. If it’s organic there is a chance it has a shorter shelf life. When was the last time you went through your products? If you cannot remember the last time you looked at some of the makeup in your drawer, products in the back of your bathroom closet, food in your pantry, hair products in the shower, then it’s time to do a spring cleaning! Sometimes even the collection is overwhelming and when I tell you how good it feels to sit and pull everything out from the closet and organize and throw it away. I did it in March, to my bathroom and bathroom closets. I cleaned out old makeup, old products, organized travel sizes & samples I have and found some new things I never even opened and were extremely old. If you don’t see a little photo, there may be sometimes a tiny expiration date on it. Also, you can look on the company's website and it will tell you the shelf life.
I know professional products do not work after they expire, that is a nice sign. The other is it will smell terrible, another is it will actually curdle and it will not do what it's meant to. This is when it’s time for a new product haul (who doesn’t love to shop?), now even if you don’t have an appointment, ask your hairstylist. There might be something that your hair needs and they can help to curate a full hair care regime with professional products to help what you need. Also, you are now supporting a small business. Don’t ask for photos to buy on amazon or go to TJ Maxx (which may be expired or fake). You are in the salon, it’s instant gratification.
